The New Balance Trailbuster Re-Engineered ($110) is just like the name says, a reengineered version of a classic silhouette. The new pack comes with a sleeker profile and an upper that features suede foxing, an updated tongue with a leather labeling, rope laces and multiple contrasting colorways. The whole kit sits on a speckled midsole and a black outsole. These will be perfect for hitting the trails.
The older I get the less stuff I buy. But when I do make a purchase it's usually based on either great design or great build quality. In the age of plastic I love things made from sturdy natural materials. The Waterford Mad Men Edition Drinkware Set ($140) fits my philosophy perfectly. Although not cheap, they will make that afternoon whiskey all the more enjoyable. The Drinkware set commemorates the last season of the iconic TV series and pays close attention to the period details to create a set that would right at home in the hands of Don Draper.
I know the first thing the comes to mind is a ninja throwing star made especially to take out bear. But the Bush Smarts Bear Star ($85) is a little more useful than that. The bear star helps you hang your food or other items out of the way of devious little forest animals. If you've ever awaken to a camp strewn with garbage or the meal you were planning to fix that day, then you know how valuable a tool like this can be. Included is the Titanium line thrower which gives you the velocity you need to get your line secured, while keeping your line untangled while in your pack. A Titanium clip that easily attaches to your bag for hanging and 50 feet of hi-viz reflective cord.
Put a little originality into your next beach outing. The Matt Singer Indigo Beach Blankets ($90) are block printed and dyed with indigo, which results in a lightweight, super soft cotton blanket. Because of the printing technique, you'll be getting a unique design, no two pieces are exactly alike. Each blanket is made handmade in India and measures 98" x 43".
The Modern Industry Redux Slingpack ($195) redefines simplicity and style. The Slingpack is made to be worn across the body like a messenger bag. It features a large main compartment with a weather resistant roll top. You also get a padded interior computer sleeve and an exterior pocket for all the gear you need to access quickly. The padded strap was made to make taking the Redux on and off a quick operation. The bag is handcrafted in San Francisco, California. And besides all that the bag just looks cool.
Adam Carolla is a man on a mission; he had had enough of the insanity that exists in modern America. The ability to reason has been removed thanks to the crystal rubbing, Oprah-watching, wholefood shopping moms and their whipped into place lawyer husbands. In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chick's ($10) is Carolla's comic gospel on life in America today. A society who views a peanut and jelly sandwich as the spawn of the devil and thinks the bathroom is no place to pee. This is an excellent book that cements Carolla's place as one of our best comedians/cultural commentators/complainers. An absolute gem.
