Chevy has just unveiled its 2014 Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo Concept ($30) at the 2014 Los Angeles auto Show. This futuristic racer was created by Jim Hall and includes cool stuff like a laser propulsion system.
The engine consists of a mid-mounted 671-kilowatt laser propulsion system. The system emits lights pulses into a shroud which creates shock waves to generate thrust. Additional features include lithium-ion batteries, and an air-powered generator. The whole kit provides over 900 horses worth of thrust and is capable of going 240-mph, with a 0-60 time of 1.5 seconds.
The driver lays in a prone position with their arms and legs splayed out towards the wheels. ThIS gives the feeling of flying and makes for an incredible driving experience.
Now if all of this sounds out of this world, it is. Although the concept is on display, the only place you’ll be able to drive this bad boy is in Playstation 3 Grand Turismo 6. The Chaparral will be available as an available upgrade to the iconic racing game. Check out the full press release here.
