"Fine art for font nerds." - New York Magazine. "One of the most engaging homages I have ever seen." - Steven Heller. Swissted ($29) has taken classic rock concert posters from the '70s, '80s, and '90s and has remixed and re-imagined them through their Swiss modernist lens. The result, in this book, are some of the coolest images you will ever see! The book features a total of 200 posters, which are already micro-perforated and are ready to frame. Then again, you can keep them bound in the form they came and enjoy a treasured art book. Steven Heller, the legendary designer, has written the foreword and this is a stunning and unique book that contains posters of everyone to Blondie and The Sex Pistols to Pearl Jame and Jane's Addiction. Totally awesome.
Even though it may well be the last thing in the world you feel like, everyone knows nothing makes you feel better in those horrendous hungover hours than food. The Hungover Cookbook ($6) is not merely a book of quick fix hangovers however, this book goes way beyond that. Before you know what food to cook you need to assess what kind of hangover you have, yes there are a lot more than one. Through a few tests that analyze the state of your mind before giving you the recipes to make the food to make you feel better. There are even some fun quizzes to track your progress. A very clever book.
Once in awhile a product, although not for sale, is simply too beautiful not to write about. The O-bow ($TBA) is an electronic musical instrument. Using a standard bow or even a wooden stick, changes in the midi are produced via an optical sensor which measures the bow speed and horizontal angle with high resolution. To play you will need a midi keyboard to produce the string sound and the O-bow would add the bow flavor. There is no word yet on whether this device will ever hit the market, but I'm hoping we will see a Kickstarter for it soon. Check out this [video_lightbox_youtube video_id= 4L4cr80vT5Q width=640 height=480 anchor=video] of the O-bow in action.
