People make a mess. Attempting Normal ($18) is about Marc Maron, at one time an angst-filled. parent-scarred, love-starved, drug-dabbling, lcomedian who had a dream of living the simple life with a wife, a home and a sitcom to call his own. Instead, he woke up one morning surrounded by a bunch of feral cats to discover he had been fired by his job on the radio and was financially and emotionally annihilated through a divorce from a woman who he thought he loved. He tried all manner of crazy things to mend his broken heart from Viagra to minor league hoarding. It was when he stripped down to absolutely nothing, however, that he started to find his way back. This is the book of Marc Maron’s journey through his mind’s wilderness, and a darn good read it is too.
