The Lexus LF-NX Concept ($TBA) is the Japanese automakers take on a mid-size luxury crossover. Production models are expected some time in 2015 and it's been hinted the engine will be a 3.5 or 2.5 liter V6 matched with an electric motor and battery pack for hybrid functionality. The styling is aggressive but I'm not totally buying the huge grill. Hopefully there will be a redesign prior to it hitting production. Check out additional pictures after the break.(more…)

It has been said that there is nothing lovelier than a tree, and Bryan Nash Gill, the Connecticut-based artist aims to prove this with his stunning book, Woodcut ($23). By creating large-scale, relief prints from cross sections of trees, Nash Gill reveals the sublime power that is locked inside those arboreal rings. He creates patterns that are not only beautiful but are also year-by-year timelines of lives of these damaged or fallen logs. The wood used he has rescued himself from the neighboring lands around his studio before extracting and preparing blocks of various tree species including maple, ash, oak, willow and spruce before creating his unique prints.
Too many movies sugar coat things and make it look unrealistic. Drugstore Cowboy ($8) is not one of those movies. Directed by Gus Von Sant and starring Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, and James LeGros, this movie is a realistic road film about a drug addict's life, his 'family', and the group's inevitable downward spiral into crime. Men who prefer the more realistic movies will appreciate the brilliance of this movie because it doesn't gloss over anything or rely on unrealistic expectations on the part of the audience. This is something that sets it apart from other movies of this genre and helps it continue to be relevant today.
Bob Costas wrote that if you are sports fan then you are an admirer of Neil Leifer. The reason for this being that for over 5 decades we have been seeing the pictures taken by Leifer and had our impressions, and our memories, shaped by them. It was way back in 1958 that journalist Leifer captured the moment that is still his most famous picture to day. Alan Ameche got the sudden death touchdown to win the championship game against the NY Giants. It was also Leifer's 16th birthday. This game, hailed as the greatest ever, is hailed as the one that brought football to prominence and changed it from one with half empty stadiums to sell outs. Guts And Glory ($33) is a wonderful tribute to this beautiful game by the best man for the job.
