A boat is lying in ruins, the bodies of criminals are strewn all over the place, and the key to the mystery of what actually happened lies with the sole survivor. He, however, comes up with a twisted and convoluted tale that includes 5 crooks and the bizarre life of crime they have led. Directed by Bryan Singer and starring Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne and Chas Palminteri, The Usual Suspects ($8) is a movie that will keep you guessing until the very end and boy what an ending that is.
Taking memories of childhood games, the TOPS Slingshot ($100) is a jovial way to relive simpler times. This specially crafted slingshot celebrates the childish admiration for fun and excitement. It was designed to emulate the handmade slingshots carved by young adventures. It measures just over six inches and weighs just under 7 ounces. It features a handle made from black canvas micarta, and a fork made from 1095 steel. It also comes with a brown leather pouch for hands-free transport. So the next time you're looking for some time away from your screens, grab your TOPS Slingshot, setup some targets in the backyard and relive your childhood.
The Sony QX1 Interchangeable Lens Camera ($399) was just announced at IFA and is now available for pre-order from Sony's website. The QX1 allows you to turn your smartphone into a mirrorless APS-C sensor camera. And because it's an ILC you have the freedom to use any E-mount lens. Just attach the body to your camera, connect your favorite lens and you're good to go. Shoot images by looking at your smartphone's LCD screen and then save them on the camera itself or your phones memory card.
Yeah, I know the red chain is really cool. Martone Cycling Co. is a design driven company who create City Bikes ($899) that make a bold statement. Each bike is offered in two sizes and five different colors; black, white, red, gold & silver. What makes this bike unique (besides the red chain) is that it's powered by SRAM's Duomatic hub that changes gears based on the speed of the bike. No shifting required. Bike also includes 26" wheels, an aluminum alloy frame, and a cool handle basket for carrying all your stuff.
MUNI is a Japanese retail change with a minimalistic aesthetic. They've now taken that ethos and unveiled a trio of mini-homes designed for those interested in right-sizing through minimalism. The result is MUJI Hut A Trio OF Minimalist Prefab Houses ($CALL). The homes are on display in a temporary exhibition, and it includes a home of cork, aluminum and one of wood. Each of the homes is lightweight and can be installed anywhere. No word yet on price, but I'm thinking the wood one would make a great pool house.
