The SuicideGirls: Hard Girls, Soft Light ($32) is a collection of over 2,500 pin-ups of girls that are devoted to changing perceptions of what makes women beautiful ... oh and they're all naked. Started by Missy Suicide and friends back in 2001 in Portland, Oregon the SuicideGirls broke the mould when it came to the conventional notions of what is beautiful and the long standing ideal of pin-up girls as defined by not only magazines but also culture in general. This book will not only appeal to those millions who regularly visit the SG website but also to men and women who always thought that shy, arty chick with nose ring and black eyeliner was the hottest girl in school.
Everything I put on Muted I would love to have for my own. But I would really love to pick up one of these guys. The Radinn Electric Powered Wake Board ($TBA) lets you surf without having to catch a wave. The board is controlled by a wireless handcontroller that governs an on board jet-propulsion system. And because it's made from carbon fiber that houses a low mass lithium battery they were able to make it small and light enough that you can take it anywhere. Right now they're building previous orders so get in touch if you're looking to get on the list for future runs.
"Revelatory . . . With every chapter, you get a history lesson, a hunting lesson, a nature lesson and a cooking lesson. . . .Meat Eater offers an overabundance to savor." - The New York Times Book ReviewMeat Eater ($20) is about Steven Rinella, he spent his childhood in Twin Lake, Michigan. He was a hunters son who taught his 3 boys to love the natural world in the same way as he did. When he was a kid Rinella devoured all stories of the American wilderness, especially those exploits of his ultimate hero Daniel Boone. He started fishing when he was only 3 and shot his first squirrel when only 8 and his first deer when 13. His college was decided by its proximity to a good hunting ground and he has also experimented in how you can live just on wild meat. He is now an adult and uses his hunting skills to bring home the meat which feeds his family. A look at a life so different from our digital frenzy it is difficult to believe at times we are on the same planet never mind in the same country.
Before you take off for your next trip, you may want to consider getting a beautiful top of the line suitcase like the Stabilist Rifle Case ($7900). This case is limited to 100 editions globally and sold exclusively through Globe-Trotter stores. The case is a handmade 26" aluminum suitcase. It features a telescopic sight handle. Inside, it is lined with quilted Alantara. If the Stabilist looks familiar it's because it made a cameo in the James Bond film SKYFALL.
Leave it to Japanese bartenders to take cocktail making to a whole new level. The Ice Ball Maker ($294) sold by The Japan Trend Shop makes perfectly circular ice cubes. To make it work you place the device in some warm water, once it's heated insert your ice cubes and let gravity do the rest. When complete you'll have the perfect ice cube to keep you drinks chilled. The one priced here is for the 30mm (1.2 inch) mini. There are additional sizes available but they get pricey real fast. For example the next model up is the 55mm version and it runs $1036.
We learn at a very young age that two is always better than one, and the same is true for Walt Siegl creations. In this case we have two delicious Ducati Leggero’s. The Walt Siegl Leggero Seattle & BC ($CALL). Both having had a complete overhaul its nice to see their original classic appeal remain intact. The Leggero Seattle has a more classic vintage touch, stripped down for that naked look. It features Showa front w/race spec Gold valves and cartridges, Brembo brakes, WSM Kevlar bodywork, Bruce Meyers 944 big bore engine with modified cylinder heads, Motogadget Tachometer, and WSM stainless mufflers. The whole kit sits on Marvic Magnesium wheels wrapped in Dunlop Q3 tires. The Leggero BC has more of a modern look and features a modern exhaust and a contemporary aluminum swingarm that is about 55 mm longer than other Leggeros. Additional specs include Brembo brakes, WSM composite bodywork, chrome moly trellis frame, harness, and stainless steel mufflers. The Leggero Seattle and the Leggero BC are a couple of my favorite Leggero's by Walt and if you want your own, based on the same platform, customized by Walt, follow the link to his site for additional ordering information.
