A world premiere in solar design, the Smartflower Solar System ($TBA) is the first to feature an all in one system. The beautiful sunflower shape unfurls as the sun rises in the morning, follows the sun’s movement through the sky before automatically folding its solar petals for the night. It’s not just an innovative design, it’s convenient and portable too and can be simply unplugged if you ever choose to move house, so you can just take it with you. Clever stuff.
Winter is coming and it's time to prepare before the real cold gets here. The Woolrich Classic Arctic Parka - Flint Olive ($885) will be your go to Parka this coming Winter. Woolrich has been making clothing since 1830 and you can see the centuries of experience in every part of this jacket. Originally made for Oil workers, the Classic Arctic Parka, offers exceptional protection from sub-zero temperatures. It features a duck-down filled jacket with a wind resistant 60/40 shell, two handwarmer pockets, double button closure, and genuine fur lined hood.
If you're familiar with the James Bond movies then you know the Aston Martin DB5 is one of the most iconic cars of the film series. The David Brown Speedback GT ($TBA) looks to take that same look and bring it into the modern era. The Speedback GT looks almost identical to the original, but it's been stretched to fit over the Jaguar XK chasis and features the supercharged 5.0-litter V8 from the KXR. With that engine you'll get 510 horses, a top speed of 155 mph, and a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. David Brown only plans to build about 50 of the cars each year so make sure you order well in advance.
The Patrick Hartog Ceramic Cable Lights ($200) add style to any room in your house. Patrick created these cable lights as homage to the mooring bollards found on wharves. Through experimenting with ceramic slip casting he was able to create a product which has the highest quality surface, and uniformity. The light gets its unique look through the unique way the cable is tied around the light. You can also change the look by using different types and colors of cables.
We've previously taken a look at the Ressence Type 1 and the Ressence Type 3. The company has now released its first Diving Watch, the Ressence Type 5 Diving Watch ($TBA). Ressence says their diver is completely readable underwater, regardless of viewing angle - zero mirror effect. To achieve this level of readability, all 142 components of the mechanical watch are immersed in 37. ml of oil. The oil cancels out the watches Total Internal Reflection, allowing for complete legibility no matter the angle of view. Most dive watches over engineer their cases to protect against the pressure of water depth. This results in a bulky over-sized case, and thick glass. Because liquid cannot be compressed, the oil in the Type 5 compensates for any water pressure, allowing for the use of a lightweight titanium case. The complete watch weighs a mere 87 grams. The Type 5 has no crown. It uses a proprietary case-back to set the time and for winding. With the Type 5, they've also included a locking mechanism for the locking and compression of the gasket. We'll update this post with pricing as soon as it's available.
