The original Blade Runner was a beautifully dark look at the possible future relationships between humans and robots. It took place in 2019 where robots, called replicants, had become indistinguishable from humans and had a penchant for violence. Because of their advancements, they were only allowed to operate on colonies in space. In the movie, Harrison Ford played a Blade Runner, a specialized police officer charged with hunting down and eliminating any Replicants who made it to earth. In the 2017 reboot, Blade Runner 2049 ($TBA), Harrison Ford is joined by Ryan Gossling who plays a modern day Blade Runner. Other cast notables include Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto, and Edward James Olmos. Blade Runner 2049 will be hitting theaters on Oct 6, 2017.
If the trailer is any indication, The Signal ($TBA) looks to be right up my alley. The movie stars Laurence Fishburne, Brenton Thwaites (Nick), Beau Knapp (Jonah), and Olivia Cooke (Hailey). The movie starts off with Nick, Jonah, and Olivia taking a road trip to Cali and on the way discovering a signal that could lead them to Nomad. Nomad is a genius computer hacker who hacked into MIT when they were students there.
Following the signal, the friends end up at a shack in the woods. Nick and Jonah start exploring when they hear Hailey's screams coming from the car. When they get outside they see something that kicks the movie into high gear.
The next scene is Nick waking up in a wheelchair in a research facility. He is told by Laurence Fishburne that he's come in contact with an Extraterrestrial biological Entity, and that Hailey is in a coma, and Jonah is missing.
Check out the Signal when it comes out this June. When you click the link to the website you need to type 'help' to get the main menu. It's pretty cool the way they set it up to look like a computer prompt.http://youtu.be/WV44-lQGlwk
Big thanks to who ever leaked the Comic-con footage of the Suicide Squad Trailer ($TBA), because it compelled the big wigs over at Warner Brothers to release the official trailer online. The 3 minute trailer features Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Viola Davis. They all play supervillains who are forced to protect the city from the real bad guys. And in comes Jared Leto's crazy ass version of the Joker. There were some grumbles on the internet when the first pictures of Jared Leto's character appeared on line, but realistically, he may have been the only choice to follow Heath Ledger's Oscar winning performance. I don't know of any other actor who could have pulled it off. Enjoy.https://youtu.be/Ue4PCI0NamI
The new Rick Owens X adidas FW14 Tech Low Top Sneaker ($689) collection expected to deliver between July 15th - August 15th gives you three shoes with a futuristic silhouette, but subdued enough for everyday wear. The shoes feature suede collars, rubber midsoles, and the iconic extended heel. Although these are considered trainers, I'd think twice about wearing these fashion statements to a regular old workout. Sneakerboy will be take pre-orders starting on June 30th. Mark it in your calendars.
In recent weeks we've done write-ups on Futures in Green & White as well as Dark Chocolate. In just two days you'll be able to get these bad boys in Black.
