Some surfers are crazy enough to go out in freezing cold waters, so it makes sense that they would enjoy warming up in their own portable sauna. The Mobile Surf Sauna ($17,950) was made by surfing enthusiasts and craftsman for surfers who love to surf in the winter. It can accommodate 2 to 8 people, and is made from rot resistant antimicrobial Western Red Cedar. The chassis is made form marine grade galvanized and stainless steel. It even comes with a mounted shovel and hi-lift jack. The Surf Sauna sounds like it would even be great just to park in your driveway for a nice winter spritz.
If pressed, my philosophy when it comes to interior design is one of minimalism with industrial and rustic accents. So I love it when a company makes pieces that fit into all of those categories. Urban Wood Goods is a Chicago based company that uses reclaimed wood from old buildings and barns to create masterpieces. Their Urban Wood Goods Stool ($135) is a modern industrial stool that is built with salvaged Douglas Fir floor boards that are sanded smooth for comfort. The base is made from steel and the feet are adjustable, so you never have to worry about wobble. Check out their site for more great finds.
As we will inevitably have to fight off a ferocious vampire attack, we average Joe's will be forced into vicious close contact combat. In order that we avoid suffering serious injuries, disfigurements or, god forbid, death from exsanguination, we need this book like, like, well, we just need it, period. In the The Vampire Combat Manual ($) you will find all the correct combat strategies and the techniques in which to ward off those stronger, faster, more agile and, of course, undead opponents. We will not simply lie down and let them drain our life blood., we have the Vampire Combat Manual, and we in the office can now put Buffy to shame with our sharp moves!
If you live in an urban environment or just like your bikes inside out of the elements then the Sonntagsstaat Bike Valet ($400) may be perfect for you. The valet has enough space, accessible by a flip open front, to store all of your bike accessories like your lock, lights, gloves, etc. The shelf is handmade from European Birch, while the flip top is made from dark Walnut. You also get a calfskin belt to help secure your front wheel. My only issue is the price. This is a well designed product but I think someone with a bit of ingenuity could get a kickstarter going and offer this at a much lower price.

If a frontier does exist beyond local, seasonal and organic, farmers markets and meat from sustainable sources then it must include fishing, hunting and foraging. A lifelong forager and angler who later became a hunter, Hank Shaw chronicles his passion for both hunting and gathering through his popular blog Hunter Angler Gardener Cook. This has evolved into a veritable bible for foodies and outdoors people alike. Dedicated to finding a place on the tables of America for the myriad of underutilized and overlooked wild foods just waiting to be collected, Hunt, Gather, Cook ($20) is an insight into his world.
