West By West ($10) is about 'Mr Clutch', one of the towering figures in basketball history who mesmerized both his fans and his opponents. He was the coach behind the resurgence of the Lakers back in the 1970's and the man who played a major part in bringing Showtime to the LA by creating a championship winning force to be reckoned with that still continues today. For the first time Lakers legend Jerry West tells his own story from his tough West Virginia childhood to his outstanding college success that led to his four decade career with the Lakers. Whether you are a basketball fan or not this is an incredible human story.
What's that I hear? Is it the death rattle for Vine? It just might be. Instagram ($FREE) has just add video to their extremely popular photo sharing app. Inside the app you will find a new movie camera icon. When you tap it you'll enter video mode which will allow you to take up to 15 seconds of video. In addition to the new video functionality you'll find thirteen new filters built just for video. You'll also be able to choose your favorite scene from your video as the cover image. Instagram 4.0 is available on Google Play and Apple's App Store.
The major problem with 3D printers is the creation of the 3D model. The software used to do this can be complicated for beginners. The Makerbot Digitizer ($1400) makes creating 3D models simple enough even for those new to 3D printer. With a couple of clicks the Makerbot will create a 3D model that is ready to print. No 3D design skills are needed and you can use the design files with the 3D printer of your choice. The Barman ($50) is one of those ideas which I believe will truly advance society as whole. OK, maybe it's not on the magnitude of the wheel, but being able to pour a perfect drink, every time, is a pretty big deal. The Barman interfaces with your smartphone through bluetooth. The phone app contains hundreds of drink recipes and you can even add your own. Put your glass on platform, choose your drink and The Barman will tell you what ingredients, and how much of them to add. It'll even provide you with a visual indicator when you've reached the correct amount for each ingredient. Check out the video to see it in action.
