The Bike Shed, owned by Derick Van den Bussche, is based out of Brooklyn, New York. They specialize in creating beautifully customized motorcycles. Their latest project, the VDB MOTO B-1 ($TBA), started its life in 1986 as a BMW R80RT. By the time Derick got his hands on the bike it was in pretty bad shape. His goal was to maintain the bikes rugged appearance while seamlessly mixing the old with the new. The R80RT was stripped of excess parts and rebuilt using a custom VDB rear subframe, ribbed brat styled seat, a modern 7" headlight, dropped mirrors, mini warning lights, powder coated wheels wrapped in Pirelli MT43 tires, and ton of other customizations. VDB believes their bikes "should be able to venture beyond where the road ends", and it looks like this awesome machine hit that mark perfectly. If you're in the market for a one of kind custom bike, the Bike Shed is a great option.
If you love the glow of vintage vacuum tubes like I do then you'll love the Blub Tube Clock ($324). The Blub combines modern technology with vintage looks. Using two buttons on the back of the clock you can change the clocks display; set the time, change between a twelve or twenty-four hour clock, change to see the date, or the temperature. It also has an alarm. The base is a CNC machined piece of aluminum that has been blasted and anodized and the Nixie tubes should last five to ten years before needing to be replaced.
There's nothing like an ice cold beer in a stainless steel mug. Welcome the Klean Kanteen Pint 4-Pack ($30), it's made for 18/8 food-grade stainless steel and is completely free of BPA and other chemicals. These great mugs hold 16 oz and are dishwasher safe. The Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Pint mugs aren't just for camping.
Taking his cue from the success of Alien, James Cameron takes an opportunity to continue the story of Alien. In Aliens ($8), the planet’s been colonized but they’ve lost contact with the colonists. So, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) goes back to the planet with a bunch of bad ass army guys to see what’s up. What she finds there makes her prior trip to the planet look like a walk in the park. Bill Paxton's character makes the movie. This is one movie that gives you a good example of why it’s never a good idea to tick off a mother. Starring Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Ball Paxton, Paul Reiser and Carrie Henn, this movie is a fitting sequel to a great movie!
The Devialet Phantom Implosion Speaker ($1990) measures 13.8 x 9.8 x 9.8 inches and has a frequency response of 16Hz to 25Hz. You can't get much better than this. Most stand alone subwoofers will only get you down to 20Hz. It weighs 35 pounds and operates anywhere from 750-3,000 watts. All of this while producing crystal clear sound with no saturation and no background noise. The Phantom integrates a dozen technological inventions based on 88 exclusive patents. You can combine two Phantom's, or even create a multi-room system. The system includes bluetooth, wi-fi, and optical to stream all your favorite tunes via your favorite services. The Phantom will be displayed at Apple stores starting this month, in case you want to hear it in person.
Burning rubber, oil and the smell of fuel define racing at its most basic level. One sudden waft and your blood comes to life, the adrenalin starts pumping and you long for the screech of tyres. Well now, you can get that same feeling at home with Sunoco Burnt Rubber Cologne ($TBA) and it's not as weird as it sounds. With a enough subtle sweet and spicy notes to keep the scent from becoming over powered. Currently Sunoco are giving away bottles to lucky individuals, though it will sadly not be available on the market... at least for the moment.
