This fascinating book, Difficult Men ($20) gives us a revealing and riveting look at those shows that helped cable TV to emerge as one of the 21st century's signature art forms. During the late 1990's and early 2000's, the TV landscape underwent a transformation that was totally unprecedented. While the major networks continued chasing the lowest common denominators a whole wave of new shows started to appear. They first arrived on such premium cable channels as HBO and the basic cable networks of AMC and FX and dramatically stretched the narrative inventiveness, artistic ambition and emotional resonance of television. These shows including The Shield, Deadwood, Mad Men and the sopranos didn't make all their characters likeable and didn't wrap everything up neatly before the credits rolled. Icons of our time, this is a brilliant book at the shows that have defined a generation
We love Deus Ex Machina and the bikes they make. Their latest creation continues the legacy of one of the best motorcycle customizers in the world. The Heinrich Maneuvre By Deus Ex Machina ($CALL) started off as a BMW R nineT, one of the most customized bikes on the road. Deus took a common platform and made it all their own. The bike was stripped by Jeremy Tagand, who then prepped the front end for a monster tank. Motoretro then went to work fabricating the fuel tank and bodywork based on drawings. The custom frame is a combination of square and round tubing. To make the stance perfect foot-pegs and controls were slightly rear-set. One of the killer details is the hand crafted alloy and suede cafe racer inspired seat. If you want to know more about this bike or want one for your garage, check the Deus website at the link below.
In our buying guide, The 10 Best Espresso Machines, we will show you a range of affordable to extreme espresso machines for the espresso connoisseur. To some, it's just some type of strong coffee, to others; it is the nectar of the gods. Whether you fall at either end of the scale, or somewhere in between, you know when you've had an excellent cup of finely prepared espresso. There is no denying the difference between a cup prepared by a skilled barista or a novice.Related: How To Make The Perfect Cup Of CoffeeModern tech has definitely helped to narrow the learning curve, making it so you can have that same experience right in your own home without having to spend hours learning subtle nuances of pressure and temperature control. For those with the skill and patience to make good use of all the potential that can be coaxed out of the manual and semi-automatic machines, it is distinctly possible your eyes will glaze over and you may very well drool in anticipation of being able to grasp these marvels of art and science. The machines in the 10 Best Espresso Machines ($90+) buying guide were evaluated based on their ease of use, potential for greatness, cup clearance, how easy they are to clean or keep clean, how quickly they can reach operating temperatures, brew speed, and style. Since this was intended for home use, I also included machines designed with a small footprint on your countertop. I love my kitchen appliances, but when you can't find the open space to even chop an onion in peace, they can start to lose their appeal.
The Vintage Electric Cafe ($3995) looks like a run of the mill vintage bike. On its own very cool. You can easily see yourself headed out to the beach or out on a ride around the neighborhood with your girl. But the Cafe has something a little extra. A powerful 750w battery. The battery has a 20-60 mile range, can go up to 28 miles per hour and only takes about 2 hours to completely recharge. Another great feat is the battery is completely removable. When you're done with your ride just bring it in and plug it into an outlet. All these features add up to one easy going day.
Too many movies sugar coat things and make it look unrealistic. Drugstore Cowboy ($8) is not one of those movies. Directed by Gus Von Sant and starring Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, and James LeGros, this movie is a realistic road film about a drug addict's life, his 'family', and the group's inevitable downward spiral into crime. Men who prefer the more realistic movies will appreciate the brilliance of this movie because it doesn't gloss over anything or rely on unrealistic expectations on the part of the audience. This is something that sets it apart from other movies of this genre and helps it continue to be relevant today.
The Loop Animation App ($1) lets you do quick and dirty frame based animation from you iPad. You not only have the ability to do free hand drawings but you can download video frames that you can trace over for cool animated effects. The resulting animations are 320px x 180px gifs that can be shared on Tumblr or Loops own gallery. I haven't had this much fun for less that $1 in a long time.
