The Adidas Springblade Drive ($180) runners are the next step in adidas’ energy focused innovation. With the use of 16 forward angled blades made from a high-tech polymer, energy return is delivered in a vertical direction. The result are elastic blades that instantaneously react to any environment, compressing and releasing energy to create the feel of having springs under your feet. The finely tuned blades provide support and a full range of movement through each phase of a runner’s stride. Also, being seven times more temperature resistant than shoes with standard EVA cushioning, the Springblades provide you with top performance in any environment.
The uppers of the Springblade are constructed of a 360-degree engineered air mesh to be flexible and designed to hug the top of your foot, locking it in to harness the energy returned from the springs on the outsole. They were made to be extremely soft and comfortable. A suede tongue and collar add additional breathability, comfort and premium details. Inspired by the Energy Boost 2, the one-piece heel to mid-fit cage provides extra stability.
It looks as though adidas is taking aim at creating the perfect running shoe. Keep a close eye on adidas’ website, the Springblade Drive will be available Wednesday for $180 at adidas.com, adidas Sport Performance stores and select retailers nationwide.
