If you’re looking for a classic timepiece our latest buying guide will show you some of the best Flieger watches for men. Flieger watches are basically pilot watches where the name came from watches provided to German Pilot during WWII. But before we get started with the list. Let’s clearly define, what exactly is a Flieger watch.
What is a Flieger Watch?
Like we stated earlier the first Flieger watches were issued to German pilots during WWII.
Because most pilots during WWII would wear gloves Flieger watches had simple movements, but some did include chronographs. And because of the gloves pilots wore watch cases were large which also had the added benefit making them easy to read and they had large crowns so they could be easily adjusted.
The first watch on our list is by the classic German watch brand, Archimede.
Archimede PILOT 45 KS Flieger Watch
German watch making is famed for many reasons as you’ll understand when you see this stunning Archimede Pilot 45 KS Flieger Watch ($793). The design takes inspiration from pilot watches is simply gorgeous. The finely brushed body work comes complete with an anti-reflective sapphire glass coating, fly crown and water resistance up to 5 ATM. It also features an 18-22mm black leather strap with a pin buckle, black luminous numbers and indexes with blue luminous hands to finish. All of this is packaged in a 45mm case so telling the time will be quick and simple with just a flick of the wrist.
Laco Zurich 1925 Pilot Watch
The first thing you notice about the Laco Zurich 1925 Pilot Watch ($197) is the brown leather strap that resembles those used in WWII. The rest of the watch features a day window under the 12:00 position and a date window at the standard 3:00 position. The case is made out of stainless steel and measures a classic 42mm. The hands and the dial markers are coated with SuperLuminova for readability in the dark. Water resistance is only 50 meters, so I would just keep away from water to be on the safe side. Anything at 100 meters or over is good for showers and swimming.
Fortis Men’s F-43 Flieger Watch
The Fortis Men’s F-43 Flieger Watch ($995) is perfect for both casual and professional wear. Its stainless steel 43mm case is capped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The black calfskin leather strap with contrast stitching is a standard 20mm so it’s easily replaceable if you want to go in the direction of a nato strap. Additional features include swiss automatic movement, day and date windows, and an amazing water resistance of up to 200 meters (660 feet). You should be able to easily show, and swim in this watch, but I would consider swapping out the leather strap before doing so.
