As we’ve stated previously, creating a beautifully customized bike is like painting a work of art. It’s part mechanical / technical prowess and part art. ER motorcycles, a young Slovenian company that takes previously owned motorcycles and turns them into works of art, is a full representation of that ethos.
The ER Motorcycles BMW R80 “Mobster” ($CALL) started off as a 1983 BMW R80. It took ER about six months to fully complete the bike. The power plant is a BMW R80 800 cc engine, paired with a stock 5 gear transmission. The exhaust, handgrips, electrical wiring and upholstery were all completely custom by ER.
There were a number of parts that came from a BMW R50/5 and a BMW R69S. The R50/5 parts include the forks, front 18” wheels, front dual drum brake, and hand controls. The frame, shocks, rear 18”wheel, rear brake drums and foot controls came from the R69S. The front and rear tires are Coker Diamond 4.5×18”
Other key features include the clip-on Tarozzi handlebars, 8” oversized “Deco” style headlight, Posh taillight, Motogadget motoscope classic speedo speedometer, and the rare sport “Schorsch Meier” full tank. The paint Job was completed by Janez Žebalc, and graphics were by Janez Žebalc and Blaž Šuštaršič.
About ER Motorcycles
Blaž Šuštaršič founded ER motorcycles in 2009 and has been a motorcycle enthusiast since childhood.
The name ER motorcycles (ER is short for Espresso Racer) stands for passion for 1960’s cafe racers. Thus old café racers are usually the ones that are being redesigned and given a new look and feel.
And what is it that makes ER motorcycles special?
A story – We redesign old bikes that have had one or two owners. They have their history on and off the road and that gives us great inspiration.
Innovation – We push the boundaries, we go that extra mile in creating something new. Whether it is trying out different materials or combining parts from different motorcycles, we try to bring something fresh to the table.
Custom design – No ER motorcycle is like any other. We usually custom design it for a particular client and build it according to his wishes. That is why we rarely have a motorcycle in stock
Attention to details – It is the little things that make the difference.
“Although Blaž has been impressed with the sound of the engine and the speed it can reach, he has always been more interested in the way a motorcycle was designed and built, giving his full attention to little details that made a motorcycle special, unique. A work of art we might say.”
Growing up, passion for innovative design and creating something from scratch led Blaž to become a graphic designer. Working full-time in advertising and drawing sketches of motorcycle redesigns as a hobby were his day-to-day life for 6 years. But his heart and soul were more and more into motorcycles… Despite the beginning of economic crisis in 2009, he reached for a business opportunity that opened up for him. He quit his job as a graphic designer and started chasing his childhood dreams. He gathered a team and opened his own shop and ER motorcycles was born.
ER motorcycles would not exist without its respective team players:
