We recently did a write-up on the Hubsan X4 FPV Quadcopter ($39-$195), a great starter quad at a very reasonable price. The DJI Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter ($1200) is the next step up for those looking for more advanced features. These include an HD camera for pictures and video, an autonomous flight system, and extended flying time.
The high performance camera that records to an included 4GB micro SD card. It shoots HD video at 1080p 30/60i and takes 14MP pictures. When connected to your Smartphone through the Wi-Fi Repeater you can monitor real-time flight data up to a distance of 300m. Shot framing and stabilization can be remotely controlled easily through an app.
An integrated GPS auto-pilot system allows you to lock your altitude and the ability to hover so you can focus on the next shot. And don’t worry if you drift outside of your control range. The integrated flight radar displays your current position and the ‘Return-to-Home’ feature will trigger and automatically return the Phantom 2 Vision to its original take off point if the control range is exceeded.
The Hubsan X4 allowed for about 7 minutes of flight, the Phantom has a 5200mAh Lithium Polymer battery that will get you up to 25 minutes of flight, while built in intelligence provides battery capacity data and maintenance reminders.
If the $1200 price tag is a bit much DJI also offers the DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone Quadcopter for GoPro ($455). Check out this [video_lightbox_youtube video_id=9bMFt4vSerk width=640 height=480 anchor=video] of the Phanton 2 Vision in action
