The Kairos Hybrid Smartwatch ($499+) is now available for pre-order. This is the first watch that combines the movement of a traditional watch with the functionality of a smartwatch. To start you get two models from which to pick. The MSW 115 has a Miyota Japanese Movement and the SSW 158 has a certified SWIIS movement form SOPROD. The case is 316L stainless steel, comes in a black, chrome, or gold finishes and measures 16.5mm x 46mm. The whole thing is capped off with a sapphire crystal.
Now for the smart part. The Sapphire Crystal also has a touch sensor and transparent film display (full color OLED TFT). The display can show text, e-mail, and incoming call notifications, push-alerts from your favorite apps, and act as a remote control for your smart phone or tablet. For example you could take pictures remotely for the perfect selfie.
There’s much more. The Kairos includes a 3 axis accelerometer w/gesture detection and a vibrating motor which means you can use this guy as your fitness app to track your daily activity and calories burned.
The cool part is that they want to make the Kairos as future proof as possible, so they’ll be offering an option to upgrade any of the electronic components including the battery for just $99. The Kairos may be the first hybrid watch, but it may also be the perfect watch.
Until July 1st you can get in on the early bird special and get 50-60% off the MSRP.
