If you’re looking for a piece of history, a great place to start would be with the Omega Seamaster 1948 Limited Edition Watch ($6700). During World War II Omega delivered over 100,000 watches to the British Ministry of Defense. The watches were so popular with sailors and airmen they applied the technology to a civilian timepiece which became the Seamaster. The latest edition has a number of the same features. There is a subdial at 6 O’clock with a leaf-style hour hand and a domed minute hand. The hands of the main watch are a Dauphine-style which are filled with white Super-LumiNova. The case is stainless steel, with a polished bezel and a commemorative case back. The case back features a flat sapphire crystal that is laser engraved with the 70th-anniversary logo, a Chris-Craft boat and Gloster Meteor aircraft – the first jet plane used by the Royal Air Force. The whole kit is capped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The Seamaster 1948 has a respectable water-resistance of 60 meters.
