Tag Heuer has released their first smartwatch targeted at the luxury market. The Tag Heuer Connected Smartwatch ($1500) features craftsmanship by Tag, processors by Intel, and software by Google. The CEO, Jeane-Claude Biver, has recognized that classic watchmakers need to get on board with Silicon Valley or risk loosing market.
The Tag Heuer Connect runs on the Android Wear operating system but features a classic Tag Heuer Carrera-inspired design. You get all of the luxury finishes you would expect from a $1500 watch. These include a 46.2mm wide and 12.8mm thick titanium case. A 360×360 pixel touchscreen, and an Intel Atom processor. Connectivity comes via Bluetooth and Wifi. And it also comes with 4GB of internal storage.
One thing the Tag is missing that might keep you from jumping on board is a heart rate sensor. It seems Tag has placed craftsmanship over the latest smartwatch tech.
And don’t worry, if you don’t like your new Tag Smartwatch you can trade it in for a mechanical version after two years for an additional $1500.
