Tesla is now taking reservations for its new Tesla Model X ($70,000-$80,000) scheduled to deliver in 2014. The Model X is Tesla’s interpretation of the crossover. It takes the best features of a car, SUV, and a minivan adds electric motors and falcon wing doors. The falcon doors allow easy step in access to the third row. The Model X has two battery options which include 60 KWh and 85 kWh versions and three powertrain options which include rear wheel drive, dual motor all-wheel drive and the performance model with all-wheel drive. The performance option can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds and has a 50% increase in torque over the single motor option. Deposits required start at $5,000.
The 2015 BMW i8 ($136,000) was recently put on display at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The plug-in hybrid is BMW’s latest release in the high-performance category.
