So what are mirrorless cameras?

With 16 megapixels, 24 compact lens options (if/when you decide to expand your photography work), and 4K Ultra HD video recording quality, this is a great option for entry-level/hobbyist photographers.
The G7 has excellent ISO coverage for those environments with limited light, but if you’re looking to shoot in very dark areas, it is important to note that you will have to do some post-editing work to reduce the noise from your photos.
Another great feature concerning Panasonic models is the in body stabilization. This allows you to get away with less expensive lenses and while still maintaining jitter-free videos. For under $700 the G7 is a great option.

The Panasonic G85 ($998) is an updated version of the G7. It has a lot of the same features as the G7 like 16 megapixels, 2160 @ 30fps with Cine-Like profiles, a mic input, and 4K Photo. But there are also a number of changes that might have you spending the extra money to move up. First of all, it has a full magnesium alloy chassis with less plastic making much studier. The body is also dust and splash resistant so it takes away some of the worry concerning water damage. The G85 has a new mechanical shutter that is much quieter than the G7 and a 5-axis in-body image stabilization that lets you take handheld photos up to 1s on the shutter. The G7 has no in-body stabilization. The G85 also has a number of other features including higher continuous shooting speeds, focus stacking, and an optional battery grip that’ll let you house two batteries for additional shooting time. Overall the G85 has additional bells and whistles but you’ll need to decide if is worth the extra money.

When it comes to owning a mirrorless camera the compact Panasonic GH5 DSLR ($1797) makes a great investment. The simplicity of its design makes it easy to use on a consistent basis, in addition, to learn the buttons, features, and functions.
