I really hope this movie is good because the book series by Stephen King is incredible. If you’ve never heard of The Dark Tower ($TBA), then a little background is needed. Starting in 1982 Stephen King released a series of eight books. The final book was completed in 2012. The story was actually completed after the seventh book “The Dark Tower” and the last book takes place between books four and five.
The Gunslinger (1982)
The Drawing of the Three (1987)
The Waste Lands (1991)
Wizard and Glass (1997)
Wolves of the Calla (2003)
Song of Susannah (2004)
The Dark Tower (2004)
The Wind Through the Keyhole (2012)
The story was inspired by Robert Browning’s poem “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came”. It’s about Roland Deschain. He is the last living member of a group known as Gunslingers. His world looks similar to the old west but also include magical characteristics. His world is dying. The magic is disappearing as well as many of the technological advances. Nations are being torn apart, cities are vanishing and time is no longer flowing in a predictable manner. The pattern of the sun is even no longer predictable.
The series documents Roland’s quest to find the Dark Tower. A building that is said to be the center of all universes. He must find the tower to keep his world and all worlds from moving on.
The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black, Katheryn Winnick as Laurie Chambers, Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers and Idris Elba as The Gunslinger. The Dark Tower drops on August 4th. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Starring Keir Dullea, William Sylvester, and Gary Lockwood, 2001: A Space Odyssey ($9) by Stanley Kubrick is as popular today as it was back in 1968. It is a tale of human evolution through intervention by an alien monolith. It follows a group of brave adventurers who make a space voyage to Jupiter and find that […]
