The North Face x Spiber Moon Parka ($TBA) is the next step on material science. It uses a protein material called, “QMONOS” which is a spider fibroin base. Which means it’s made out of an artificially engineered protein-based material that mimics a spider’s silk. This is the first time this material has been used in an actual production line. Why spider silk you ask? Well because it is one of the most resilient materials available. Stronger than Kevlar in fact. This particular material gives the outer shell of the jacket a glow similar to that of the web the Golden Orb spider would spin. The Moon Parka is hopefully a glimpse of what’s to come with regards to extreme cold-weather gear.
