Some times you just have to wonder why it took so long for someone to come up with a product. If you’re anything like me then you know that eventually during the week you’ll spend a ridiculous amount of time looking for something you’ve misplaced. The Tile App ($19) jut may be the answer to all of our dreams.
The Tile includes a small tile looking piece of hardware and an App that works with most current iOS devices. The main requirement is Bluetooth 4.0. If you’re within 50ft-150ft of your lost object the App will let you know when you’re getting close. The hardware has a built-in speaker that you can trigger when you get close.
Probably the coolest feature is the ability to mark an item as lost. When you do this all other tile apps will keep a look out for your tile. Once found their app will discretely communicate with the cloud system and send you the location of your tile.
The Tile works for a year and when the year is up the company will notify you that your tile needs to be replaced. The Tile is currently taking pre-orders with delivery expected Winter of ’13/’14.
