The Vollebak Ocean Shorts ($245) are designed to work in all 350 million square kilometers of the oceans on Earth, whether you’re surfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, sailing or wakeboarding. And by building the world’s best boardshorts, they’ve created the most versatile shorts ever made – as high-performance on a mountain as they are in the mid-Atlantic.
Vollebak rethought how shorts are designed from scratch, and the end result is a stripped-down feat of technical engineering and minimalist design:
- Constructed with a single bonded seam so nothing can chafe
- Every detail has been cut by lasers
- Welded barracks for extra strength
- High stretch fabric allows totally unrestricted movement
- Super-soft mesh fabric and chafe-free bonded seams on the inner lining
Because good design matters even when you can’t see it.
Highly abrasion resistant against reefs and rocks and with soft Italian mesh fabric protecting your balls, the Ocean Shorts stretch like an elastic band, block UV and repel water with plant-based technology.
Vollebak co-founder Steve Tidball says: “While we set out to build the best shorts on earth for the water, everything that makes them amazing for the oceans makes them phenomenal back on land too. They’re so light, stretchy and seamless you can run an ultra-marathon in them. They’re strong and resilient enough to cope with any mountain biking, climbing or hiking trip. They’re as soft and comfortable as a pair of sweatpants if you just want to kick back. And the cut and simplicity mean you can wear them to the office.”
Vollebak co-founder Nick Tidball says: “The material we’ve used was originally designed for compression gear so it’s incredibly strong. We’ve simply laser-cut it into the shape of non-compression gear. The strength of the material remains identical but you have none of the pressure on your muscles. On abrasion tests which show you how fast you could destroy something on coral reefs or a dirt track, it scores 5 out of 5 for toughness.”
The Ocean Shorts are available in a highly limited production run with a Granite edition and a Green edition, priced at $245 USD.
