Chinese technology manufacturer, Xiaomi Mi Ecosystem, has announced the launch of its new Xiaomi Mi Laser Projector ($1469). It is said to be the ‘world’s first cinema-level laser projection available for home use. The Xiaomi Mi has been in development for over 2 years and has been fitted with ALPD 3.0 laser light source technology by Appotronics – a company that specializes in movie projection. The 5000-lumen system promises up to 34 years of use and a screen of 150 inches. To put that in perspective an Epson 6500UB with an LCD bulb will last about 3000 hours and put out about 1600-lumens. The Mi also comes with a high-quality speaker system to deliver a ‘true cinema experience’. The other cool thing is that based on the image it looks like a short throw projector, which makes placement a snap. Now the bad news. It is possible the Xiaomi Mi will only ever be released in China. Hopefully, the rest of us will be able to get our hands on this bad boy some day.
